Firefly Style started as a costume design company for the first three years and in fall of 2005 an idea hatched for the first Fly Pants. Firefly Style Clothing debuted in March of 2006 with the idea of creating responsibly made sassy dance clothes.
Mission/Vision
Our customer prizes clothing which allows their individuality to be expressed. The adaptive styles offers the wearer a number of variations within one design. The Fly Pants have a hook and eye system which attaches to the knee or the hip for added creative possibilities. Our tie tops have 10 foot long wraps which allows for numerous ways to wear them. Each customer is unique and we aim to help them accentuate their personal beauty.
Business Philosophy
All clothing ismanufacturedin the USA and designed by Nera Brent. Firefly Style is committed to NOT exploiting clothing laborers by using over-seas outsourcing; instead we prefer manufacturing in Los Angeles with local materials. We have used the same sewers as Bebe and other major clothing brands and are specific about our quality output. All of the patterns/styles have been publicly displayed for sale on this website and thus have a reserve on their copyright.
History of the Designer and Owner
Nera Brent was born in Hilo, Hawaii and went to Fine Art School at San Diego School for Creative and Performing Arts later attending Academy of Art University for Fashion Design in 1996. To further her studies she earned a bachelors degree in psychology.
While still in Fashion design school Nera Brent started her first position as a costume designer for Enrico Labayen ballet company. Dance and music have shaped her designs ever since. Inspired by "The Lindy Hop" swing dance, Nera started her first clothing line, Retrofit Clothes in 1997. Retrofit featured Swing Dance era clothing for men and women for which Nera learned couture suit tailoring to create the mens' Zoot suits. The constraints of designing period pieces was too limiting. A contemporary line, The Nera Couture House , was born with a design focus on custom made clothing in the Fall of 1999. In 2003 Nera started to work with San Francisco Bay Area fire performers, burning man folk, bridal parties, modern dance and belly dancers under Firefly Costumes and in 2006 Firefly Clothing; gypsy streetwear debuted.
